Terms of Service

Plain terms for a tool that mostly runs on your own device, with your own content.

Last updated: 5 June 2026

By installing or using HushBook ("the app"), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

The service

HushBook is an audiobook player that transcribes audio on your device and displays word-level, synced text so you can read along. It also offers an optional library of public-domain titles, reading analytics, and accessibility features. The app runs locally; there is no HushBook account or server that stores your content.

Your content & imports

HushBook lets you import your own audio files. You are responsible for the content you import, and you represent that you own it or otherwise have the right to use it (for example, files you purchased, recorded, or that are in the public domain).

Important: HushBook is a personal tool for content you are entitled to use. It is not a way to obtain, share, or distribute copyrighted audiobooks. Using it to copy or process works you don't have rights to is a breach of these terms and may break the law.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use HushBook to:

We respect intellectual-property rights. Although HushBook does not host your imported files, if you believe content offered through the app (for example, a catalogue listing) infringes your rights, send a notice to copyright@hushbook.app with: identification of the work, the material in question, your contact details, a good-faith statement, and a statement under penalty of perjury that you're authorised to act. We will respond to valid notices and may remove offending listings; repeat infringers may be barred from the app.

Public-domain catalogue

The built-in store surfaces titles from LibriVox and the Internet Archive. That content is provided by those services under their own terms and licences and is offered "as is." HushBook is not affiliated with, and does not control, those providers or their catalogues; availability and metadata can change.

No warranty

HushBook is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. On-device transcription is automated and may contain errors; it is not guaranteed to be accurate or complete.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, HushBook and its maker are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including any loss of data on your device.

Changes

We may update these terms; the date above will reflect the latest version, and material changes may be surfaced in the app. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.
